3. Other ideas-
a) Have students research facts about residential schools and/or Truth and reconciliation and make posters to place around school or classroom to share (could do gallery walk)
b) Have an elder come to school or classroom to talk about their experience at residential school
c) Read a short story about residential school with students
d) Do a novel or film study
e) Have students make committments to Truth and Reconciliation and write them up
f) Create colouring pages using Indigenous artists (make sure you give credit and/or have permission) and write down why the day is important or things they learned
g) Create orange shirt day tshirts on paper with messages
h) Colour rocks orange and write messages about Truth and Reconciliation or facts/feelings about residential school

If you do share I just ask that you credit the artist -Michelle Stoney, so that when it’s on a google images that the artist is known. I made this design to honour the local children who were taken from Gitxsan territory and forced into residential schools. The hand represents the children reaching out letting people know that they are here.
The items in the hand design are:
Mountain (Stegyoden) - represents my community, Gitxsan territory
Flowers (majagalee) - In our language represents children. This part represents the children that were taken from the land.
Tree (cedar)- represents the children who came back and help build the Gitxsan Nation what it is today.
Feathers- represent the children who never came back and who we will never forget.
