Timed write explanation-
a) You must stay writing (or in the writing process the entire time) There is no such thing as being finished. You must always continue to try to add to your writing.
b) You must write in full sentences, using proper grammar. Paragraphs will receive higher marks.
c) You can spend a few minutes brainstorming if needed.
d) No talking during timed write.
e) When you hit a block, re-read what you wrote and look to see if you can add any details. Think-What else could I say? How could I elaborate? What details could I add?

This assignment can be done on your own or with a partner. (if working with a partner both students needs to hand in their own copy of the assignment)-Using the literary terms definitions sheet find, and explain, an example for all of the terms except for #20, #21, #22, #23, #24, #28, #29, and #30. Examples can be taken from any stories, novels, books, movies or tv shows you know. You must write a sentence that uses the definition of the term, and the example you found, to explain why your example is correct. See the example below:

Tuesday Feb. 17- Day 3
1. Take attendance.
2. Tell students that they are going to be starting on a creative writing piece for Take us to your Chief. They will need to write a 2+ page (single space) creative writing assignment based on one of the following choices . They will need to show the writing process, including a brainstorm, an outline, a rough draft, editing and a good copy.
Choices for creative writing assignment
a)Write a follow up to the ending of the story. Some possibilities could be:
-What happens when they arrive at the planet.
-What happens while they are on the planet.
-What happens when they return to Earth.
-Other possibilities (their choice)
b) Write a letter from either Teddy, Cheemo or Tarzan to the chief letting him know what has happened since they left earth.
c) Write a report written by one of the Kaaw Wiyaa explaining their plans for earth and the ambassadors.
d) Think of a creative writing assignment based on the story and use it for your creative writing assignment.
3. Have students work on these until the end of class.
Wednesday Feb. 18- Day 3
1. Take attendance.
2. Tell students that they are going to be continuing on with the creative writing piece for Take us to your Chief that they started yesterday. (see Tuesday Feb. 17 lesson)
3. Tell students that they should be working on a rough copy which will be due tomorrow. If they have finished their rough copy they can work on one of the following things. (please tell them not to work on a good copy as we will be doing some peer editing in class)
a) Finish any missing assignments including timed write #1, literary terms assignment, autobiography and rubric and the questions for Take us to your chief.
b) Work on an enrichment project. (they have sheets to look at for possibilities and there should be a copy in one of the folders on the desk)
c) Read quietly
d) Work on assignments from one of their other classes.
4. Have students work on these until the end of class
Thursday Feb. 18- Day 4
1. Take attendance.
2. Hand out the “Tony Toenails” story and the general story questions.
3. Tell students that they will need to read the story and answer the questions in full sentences, with reasons, examples and explanations when needed.
4. Have students read the story and do the questions.
5. If students finish they can work on their creative writing assignment from the last couple days or do enrichment work. (they have a sheet) Work on this until the end of class.

3. Continue with Descriptive writing and the 5 senses practice (for each slide you must write down something to describe the sense listed. You should be trying to show, rather than tell the details so the reader imagines what you are describing. (see notes)
4. Brainstorm ideas for two of the following activities and create point form notes of words, phrases, adjectives, adverbs, poetic devices and other descriptive words/imagery to describe the five senses and emotions (sight/sound/taste/touch/smell/emotions)-
For each of the ideas divide your page up into 6 sections as seen below to create your brainstorm. You can do this on your own or with a partner/group but each person needs their own list.

b)If a device has a circle they can look up an example but still have to explain how it is an example of the device.
c)If there is no checkmark or highlight they do not have to do it.
Example of how to answer:
Alliteration-
Example-Jeremiah Johnson jumped with joy.
Explanation- This is an example of alliteration because the consonant sound “j” is repeated at the beginning of the series of words.

a) Dual entry journal- Chapters 11-26- due Tuesday June 2 (must have 6 quotes, 4 half pages of reflections, and use all 3 types- literary analysis, Emotional/Feelings, Connection to self/text/world/Real life
b) Work on poetry anthology-Due Fri. June 12
c) missing assignments

June 10- Rough copy of Essay due (will be done in class on June 10th/11th)
June 15- Good copy of Essay due
June 16/17- Final assessment- Dual entry journals based on novel quotes, literary devices and poetry- open book
